W-A-S-T E
(An Acrostic)

Many attitudes and habits can be a waste of time. Let’s analyze WASTE by using it as an acrostic.

W- Worry: “Do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more important than food, and the body more important than clothes?” (Matt. 6:25, niv).

A- Anger: “In your anger do not sin" : Do not let the sun go down while you are still angry, and do not give the devil a foothold. Get rid of all bitterness, rage and anger, brawling and slander, along with every form of malice” (Eph. 4:26-27,31, niv).

S- Sorrow: “I would not have you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning them which are asleep, that ye sorrow not, even as others which have no hope” (1 Thess. 4:13, kjv).

T- Terror: “Thou shalt not be afraid for the terror by night; nor for the arrow that flieth by day; Nor for the pestilence that walketh in darkness; nor for the destruction that wasteth at noonday” (Psa. 91:5-6, kjv).

E- Envy: “Let us not become conceited, provoking and envying each other” (Gal. 5:26), niv).

Now, all of these are legitimate emotions, and each has a place in our lives. For example:
A little worry makes us cautious; but too much is like a rocking chair. It gives you something to do, but doesn’t get you anywhere.

A little anger helps us remain free and autonomous; but too much leads to violence. W’m Alger said, “Men often make up in wrath what they want in reason.”

A little sorrow is normal and healthy, but too much becomes depression and despair. J. H. Vincent said, “There can be no rainbow without a cloud and a storm”

A little terror keep us safe from dangerous situations; but too much paralyzes us in the form of panic attacks. R.W. Emerson said, “Fear always springs from ignorance.”

A little envy makes us ambitious and productive; but too much causes us to want what others have, and that’s wrong. St. Chrysostom said, “As a moth gnaws a garment, so doth envy consume a man.”
