Everyone gets angry. Even Jesus got angry. Paul said, " Be ye angry, and sin not . . ." (Eph. 4:26).
So, when we do get angry, a calm reasonable analysis is essential. Sometimes, after careful consideration we should say:
1. My anger is inappropriate. This was my fault;
2. Or, my anger is silly. This was an accident;
3. Or, my anger is over-blown. This was unimportant;
4. Or, my anger is misplaced. I am really mad about some thing else.
Then, in a few cases, we can honestly say:
5. My anger is justified. This is wrong!
If we honestly assess that our response is justified, then instead of a wild, unproductive reaction, we must let our anger become a positive motivator. Jesus used his anger to confront those who would impose oppressive rules that hurt people.
Once, when a crippled man begged for help on the Sabbath, the Lord said, " 'Is it lawful to do good on the Sabbath day, or to do evil? to save life, or to kill?' But they held their peace. And he looked round about on them with anger, being grieved for the hardness of their hearts" (Mark 3:4-5).
Anger is nature's "strength enhancer." It can be a very destructive force or a catalyst for change. Use it well!
